is an Emmy®-winning cinematographer based in Los Angeles. His work spans the gamut of the industry – from the television documentary series The Migrant Kitchen to commercial productions for brands like Target, Sony Playstation, Four Seasons Hotels, Apolis, and La Marzocco. He thrives in intimate, human stories bathed in naturalistic light, where the camera is just as much a part of the scene as the characters.
Austin is passionate about demystifying the “intangibles” of image aesthetic and believes that the latest generation of digital capture devices opens up a new playground to become look authors rather than look shoppers (the work and research of Steve Yedlin, ASC being a big influence).
When he’s not behind the camera, you’ll probably find him 50 feet in the air looking for his next handhold on a sport climb in the far reaches of Los Angeles County, or scheming up the next passion project with his brother and close collaborator Daniel Straub.
